The CareFlite Helicopter undertakes regular flights into Great Keppel Island as part of their training program for responding to emergency events.
GKI community volunteers are involved in the training exercises, ensuring that the airstrip is prepared and for night training exercises, lit with the Island's emergency lighting. A supply of fuel is also stored on the Island in case the helicopter requires an extended range for emergencies further out to sea.
